Martijn de Bie
My name is Martijn, Level Designer and tech enthusiast. Over the past few years I have worked on a variety of AAA projects as a level designer. I love to create amazing worlds for players to explore; linear or open world. I have a passion for curated AAA singleplayer experiences, which I design levels for with clearly defined themes and top-notch gameplay; memorable and tactical combat encounters, and exciting traversal sections. Visually scripting and prototyping new gameplay features and level mechanics are also a part of my arsenal.
Outside of working hours, I love to create music. Both with software on my computer and by playing on my keyboard or drum set. I feel like I can be really creative doing this; I love to try out new things and to explore the possibility space, just like in game design.
I also like bouldering, going to the gym, cooking, and hanging out with friends. We order pizza, go to see a movie, play games together or participate in a Game Jam. Spending time with my colleagues outside of work makes them more than just people I work with.
Currently I am working on an unannounced project after having worked on "Age of Empires", and the award-winning "Returnal" for PS5 and PC at Climax Studios in the UK, where I work as a full-time developer. At the Breda University of Applied Sciences I studied 'International Game Architecture and Design' for which I obtained a bachelor's degree.
